Events to entertain all ages for Summer Library Program 2022
We are so excited for “Read Beyond the Beaten Path”, the summer 2022 reading program! June is jam-packed with fun. Wonderful Wednesday programs at 1 p.m. are for everyone. Performers include a balloon storyteller, the RAD (Reptiles and Amphibians Discovery) Zoo, a butterfly encounter, a sled dog presentation, and our very own Floyd County Naturalist Heidi Reams. We are also partnering with ISU Extension to offer a couple of STEM day-camps, one for K-3rd graders in June and one for 4th-6th graders in July.
The teens are not to be left out. The month of June has Teen Tuesdays to entice them with a campfire, paracord bracelets, Poke-gardens, and an after-hours Nerf Night!!!
Let’s not forget about the reading! We have reading logs available to record each child’s reading minutes throughout the month of June. On Wednesday, June 29th, we will have drawings for the grand prizes including 2 new bicycles generously donated by CAMBREX. The teens will have their chance at a brand-new bicycle too, thanks to the generous donation by Mike Molstead, with a drawing held on Tuesday, June 28. Participants can begin turning their reading log in on June 1st, so don’t delay in picking some up!
A new addition this year are three family events! This summer includes a Family Nerf night, a Family Fairy Garden building event, and a Family Blanket Fort Night in the library. Lastly, on Saturday, July 30th, along with other Floyd County Librarians, we will be wrapping up the summer fun with an Outdoor Fun Day at Tosanak Recreation Area from 1– 4 p.m. It will be fun for the whole family.
We have activities for adults too! Adult readers should watch our Facebook and Instagram page for Summer Reading Challenges! Any books checked out during the summer months will earn an entry into a monthly grand prize drawing. Also don’t miss the Iowa Honey Producers program at 2 pm on June 7 and Malinda Carlson author event at 6:30 pm on June 23. Look forward to a historical presentation of the 6 on 6 women’s basketball in Iowa on July 12. And last but not least, join us for a new Wednesday Walking Group every Wednesday morning at 8 am starting June 1st!
